Some texts seem to say he does and others seem to say he doesn’t. So, does God visit the sins of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation? John Piper addressed this question several years ago in an article, and I now quote him at length: As I read those two verses before the responsive reading, I was struck by the words at the end of verse 7, that God "visits the iniquity of the fathers on the children and children's children, to the third and fourth generation." It was not mentioned in the responsive reading, but I wondered if such a statement would be troubling, and worthy of some explanation. During last Sunday's service, I led a responsive reading based on Exodus 34:6-7.
